Regular grooming is an important element to maintaining the overall health and well-being of your pet. The Pet Maven offers a variety of gentle grooming services for your small dog or cat in the comfort and security of your home.
This is an ideal solution for older animals, animals with special needs, new puppies, animals who hate going to the groomer and for animal caregivers who find it difficult to get out of the house.
Cats are truly creatures of habit. Having The Pet Maven as your personal in-home cat sitter will assure your cats’ environment and routine is maintained. In your absence, their emotional, physical and spiritual well-being will be paramount to the care provided to them. Not only will stress be minimized for your cat, but you will have the added comfort knowing they will be attended to by a professional, knowledgeable and caring cat sitter.
“Helen has been my cat carer for several years. She and Pumpkin had an immediate empathetic rapport at their first meeting due to Helen's long experience with pets resulting in a wonderful understanding of their personalities and needs. She also regularly cuts Pumpkin’s nails, both front and back, all of which she does very professionally, and with the uttermost respect for the animal. Helen visits several times a week to help me in administering IV fluids and other medications. When I am away I know that Pumpkin is going to be extremely well taken care of by Helen. She is a totally reliable person and always ready to accommodate her clients with a last minute request for changes in scheduling. I am so grateful to have Helen in my life and to know that I can call upon her any time for assistance with Pumpkin.”

“In comparison to other commercial groomers, I prefer using Helen’s services for my puppy’s grooming. Helen provides that gentle touch for my Kobe who makes grooming a ruthless task for anyone; having a personal in house groomer on call, helps to provide him with a more intimate grooming experience with a person whose skills allow her to give him that extra attention and sensitivity that he needs”.
Melissa H, NYC
"Helen was a real find for us. Sam, our Tibetan Terrier, has a coat of hair that gets matted very easily. Helen began coming to our apartment once a week to groom him. After she gets through with Sam, he looks picture perfect and the gnarls of tangled hair are gone. And Sam absolutely loves Helen. His tail begins wagging the minute she steps off the elevator."
Tom P and Sally H, NYC
“Helen's at home grooming services have provided so much comfort to us. We have a special needs dog (seizures), especially during stressful activities. Helen handles Patsy in a gentle and compassionate manner. Her grooming style is so good we have been able to increase intervals between grooming. Thanks, Helen for all your help.”

Helen has been cat sitter extraordinaire to my two cats since Oct 2003, and every time I have to go away, I breathe a sigh of relief knowing she is available to take care of them! She is extremely knowledgeable about pet care, health and grooming, and has been wealth of information to me...I even use the vet she recommended. I have complete faith and trust in her as she has consistently proven herself reliable and I believe she genuinely cares about my cats. One of my cats often needs to be medicated and knowing she is skilled in 'pilling' a cat (anyone who has tried knows this is not an easy task:) is a big relief. On top of being an excellent pet sitter, Helen has also started grooming my long-haired cat on a regular basis. Having her available to come to my home is so much more convenient for both me and my cat...and definitely less traumatic for everyone involved. Helen is really quick with the grooming, minimizing the stress on my cat, and the end result is an adorable lion cut every time. Helen is a jewel and I hope she continues as the Pet Maven for many years to come!

“Helen has taken care of my “geriatric” kitty Felix for the past several years. He is 19 years old and I feel so lucky that I am able to leave him and never worry when he is in Helen’s hands. She is truly a “Pet Maven”. Not only is Helen a devoted cat owner but she is quite knowledgeable about food, nutrition, grooming and many feline health issues. Along with the basic feeding and litter changing she also administers meds to Felix twice daily. Helen is very observant and is the first to notice if something is different, she knows all of Felix’s resting places and since he is deaf she makes sure that he is where he should be. Helen has also been known to give a little extra grooming if she thinks Felix needs it ! It is especially nice to return home to a written note giving a detailed report of how your pet did during the time Helen was in charge. Helen also grooms my two prized Australian Shephards, not an easy task for anyone. After bathing and drying them, removing their thick undercoat and giving them a trimming haircut, they look gorgeous…Cassie and Weaver know it too”

"As a timid cat by nature, Dale shied away from strangers; yet, she warmed up immediately to her “nanny”, Helen, upon their first few encounters, and they have been pals since 2003. Every time, her “mommies” returned home, she greeted us with her “Everything is terrific at home” purring!"

“Helen is the best find ever in cat sitters! I would not want anyone else to take of Cheba when I am traveling. Helen is always readily available, is super reliable, and gives me great updates on the little guy when I am away. I should also mention that Cheba needs 3 different medications given to him on a daily basis…but not a problem for Helen. Helen really is expertly trained in handling my high maintenance furry friend. And, as much as I love having Helen come take care of Cheba, Cheba loves it when Helen comes to play with him too (he told me so!). Thanks, Helen, for all of your great care!!”
Traci K, NYC
“Helen has been cat sitting my furry apartment-mate for almost 5 years now. She is a delight to work with. She responds promptly to requests for services and is easily available both via phone and/or email and always confirms. Helen is extremely conscientious. I particularly like her policy of requesting I call her upon my return. This way I am assured that should something come up and I am unable to get home when expected my cat will continue to be taken care of. My furry friend is always well provided for. She takes time to play with and brush Max. I was new to cat ownership and Helen continues to be an excellent source of cat advice and knowledge. I always return home to find everything neat & clean and well cared for – especially the creature.”
Cathy C, NYC
“Thank goodness for Helen, the Pet Maven! I had a family emergency and Helen was able to step right in and take care of my 14 year old cat, Vanilla. I was able to be away from my home and take care of my family while I had peace of mind that Vanilla was also being taken care of--in her own home being fed, medicated, played with, brushed, scooped for and paid attention to. Helen is more than the Pet Maven. She's my Pet Hero!”
Eve O, NYC
“It is with great peace of mind that I now go away knowing that my "children" (aka cats - Emily & Morris) are going to be in Helen's competent care. She is responsive to my scheduling needs, and can not only be relied upon to take care of the daily chores associated with cat sitting, but also to provide them with the love and attention that only true animal people understand. I always come home to cats who are happy and well cared for.”
Fran M, NYC
“Professional, responsive and loving are words I would use to describe Helen’s care of my cats. Helen has been caring for Jupiter & Mello in my home for several years. She’s extremely dependable and I always have peace of mind knowing she is there for them. She even has her own key to my home. She confirms all visits, will provide kitty updates while I am gone and even leaves me a written note for my return home to let me know how my cats are. And, Helen even gives Jupiter a stylish grooming make-over with a very cute lion haircut. She’s extremely patient, gentle and adept with Jupiter’s grooming. Helen provides 1st rate service whether it be for cat sitting or grooming”

“Helen has been my pet sitter for over three years and I can't recommend her enough. I used to worry when I had to go away and leave my cats behind, but no more. She takes wonderful care of both my young and geriatric cat and they both love her! Helen does everything needed for their care from feeding twice a day, cleaning the litter, playing with them and, if desired, grooming. She does not hesitate to clean up the occasional accident, adjust the temperature to insure their comfort, give medicine, and when one of my older cats required intravenous fluids she was more than willing to oblige. Helen's thoughtfulness both to owner and pet is remarkable-she lets me know when she will be away so I will not be left without a pet sitter, gives holiday gifts to my cats, and there is always a note left for me upon my return home to let me know just how they did in my absence. While away, she communicates with me by e-mail and even sends me digital pictures. Add to that, her willingness to do such things as bring in my mail, and Helen is, in my opinion, the perfect choice if you need someone to look after your pets. How lucky I am to have found someone who is reliable, honest, and warm and caring with my pets. You won't be disappointed as she is absolutely the best!!!”
Judith A, NYC
"Helen is an extremely reliable caretaker for our adopted cat Max. He has had health problems in the past and Helen always keeps a close eye and is so caring. She is also very helpful with grooming. We ask her to come and groom Max once a quarter; she is so gentle and efficient. Helen is our first stop when it comes to questions about Max's habits and well being. We enjoy working with her and appreciate her services."
Meredith & Peter H, NYC
"When I go out of town and Helen always takes care of my kitties -- Blossom and Daisy. Not only do I feel comfortable knowing that she is the one taking care of them, but my kitties actually look forward to seeing and being with Helen. Helen's care of my kitties is second to none!!!! It is clear she loves animals and they love her too."
Rosemarie B, NYC
“I feel so fortunate to have found Helen! I have two cats with very different personalities and she has gotten to know both of them very well and gives them both personalized, loving attention. She is completely professional, readily available, flexible when plans change and 100% reliable. One of my cats is extremely shy; Helen is able to clip this cat's nails, which amazes me, since this cat lets almost no one near her. Helen is also a wonderful source of advice, as she is an expert on feline health and nutrition.”
Jeanne C, NYC
“Helen does a great job grooming our dog Buster. Buster is a Wheaten Terrier and 5 months old so he still is quite difficult when it comes to the whole grooming process. Helen is very patient with Buster and maintains a professional, yet caring rapport with him. Both my fiancée' and I work very long hours making it difficult for us to take Buster to a groomer ourselves, but Helen is able to work around our busy schedules and come by our home to provide her grooming services. We were extremely pleased with Helen and love the way Buster looks after she finishes grooming him.”

“While waiting her turn on the grooming salon assembly line, Emma, my beloved miniature poodle managed to slip the (grooming) loop, jump off the table and squeezed through the slightly ajar front door. When the groomer finally caught up with her, Emma had crossed Broadway, returned home and was sitting in the lobby waiting for the elevator! Consequently Emma has only been groomed in her home, where she has the Groomer’s full attention (without cages, undue stress, or other animals/diseases). I learned of Ms. Helen Adler, an experienced and caring professional groomer, who well understands and gently furnishes the special needs of my nearly 15 year old pup. Additionally, Emma is also always glad to see Ms. Adler when she arrives (always on time) for grooming appointments. Over the years, Emma has developed severe arthritis (in her spine and hind legs) as well as Cushing’s syndrome which present a variety of grooming challenges. As a result of her medical conditions, Emma can not stand for extended periods and has skin maladies. Ms. Adler is unrushed and works around Emma’s infirmities during all phases of Emma’s grooming. I am very satisfied and would recommend her to anyone looking for a competent groomer.”

“The Pet Maven, better yet my dear colleague Helen Adler makes all the difference in the world
to me and Sami the love of my life kitty in that I am able to travel for business or pleasure
(so far at any time) with the assurance that he, the Samster, is in the best of care I could possibly hope for - truly his second mommy. The comfort that Helen provides in peace of mind for me is beyond words...hence a true colleague - I can run my consultant business and be available for my clients in their needs because Helen is there for me and Sam in the same way. But Helen in all her professionalism also adds the extra touch of comfy coziness to her charges that I so appreciate. She has left me notes on Sam's days as he is an older kitty going on 16 years so I love knowing the little details of his days...she is keeping the same kind of eye on him as I do... that means to world to me. Helen has clipped his nails at times when I just haven't taken notice that it was time to so and she has made wonderful recommendations to me on better care tips like ceramic feeding bowls vs. plastic ones. When I finally come home after a trip, Sami looks just great and that speaks volumes! Did I mention that Helen also medicates him and at the moment has even taken on my new little critters - Mr. Crabs and Pookie Joe - my precious Hermit Crabs. I couldn't do well what I have to do if it wasn't for Helen - Sami and I know how fortunate we are to have her in our lives.”
Myrella T, NYC
“It has been a delight having Helen come to my home to groom my elderly pets instead of dragging them to the groomer's. One of them has a medical condition that makes her quite temperamental. The other one is a Yorkie who is very high strung. Helen has been able to groom both of them without much problem. My dogs were so unhappy going to the groomer's that I decided to try an at home service. They're happy not to go and I'm happy not to drag them. While they still don't enjoy being groomed, the stress and anxiety of dragging them to the groomer's and picking them up is gone. They never have to wait in cages to be groomed and I don't have to worry about what's happening to them while they're there. Engaging The Pet Maven to groom my dogs was a great decision.”
